Moving and Decluttering: Why It Matters (Oz Moving)

Our friends over at OZ Moving put together an article on the importance of decluttering before moving and we wanted to share it here as we find the decluttering step the most important step in any move.

Moving and Decluttering: Why It Matters

by: Oz Moving

Nobody likes clutter. People who paint your house don’t like it because it takes up too much room and they can’t move about. Exterminators don’t appreciate it because of how much Connecticut-born pests love cramped, piled-up spaces. Not even the movers in Connecticut like clutter, even though transporting lots of stuff can earn them quite a bit of money.

So, if you decide on either painting, exterminating, or moving (which sometimes contains the previous two), you must declutter your home. Though it might seem like a hassle, like it’s too much tiring work before something as major as moving homes, it’s absolutely necessary. In fact, it’s important to do both before and after you move to another home.

In this article, you will learn why getting rid of unwanted, excess things is actually beneficial for your health and wellbeing. Moreover, you’ll figure out how to best deal with clutter in general.

Why Decluttering Before the Move Is Vital

Keeping Tabs on Important Items

Modern homeowners have too many things in their rooms. In fact, they might have so many items that it borders on hoarding. After all, do you really need old receipts and papers from 17 years ago? What about all of those empty pill bottles and cardboard packages of old branded items?

By reducing the clutter in your home, you get rid of everything you know you simply will not need. With that reduction process done, you will only be left with your important items. And that reduced number of items is much easier to keep track of than the number you originally had. Plus, it helps you save money when hiring movers. The fewer items you take with you, the lower the transportation price. Identifying your most

important possessions should be one of the first steps you take when planning your move.

Reducing Any Potential Health Risks

It’s simple science — clutter can cause a whole range of different physical and psychological problems. It directly affects your mental state, causing feelings of anxiety, depression, and even a few panic disorders. Moreover, if your clutter is in a cold, damp space, mold and mildew might start to grow, and it can gather lots of dust and grime. And as we mentioned earlier, pests and insects love inhabiting tight spaces that don’t get moved about for a while.

On the other hand, decluttering comes with plenty of health benefits. Yes, it handles all of the issues mentioned above. But above that, it also helps you focus, concentrate, and think more clearly than before. Doing a mundane job like decluttering will boost your brain’s logical thinking and reasoning. And you’ll need every active piece of grey matter to pull the move off without a hitch.

Giving Yourself and Others Some Breathing Room

Most often, people don’t move alone but get others to help them pack and organize the items. So, if you want both you and your family members to do the move right, you will need some breathing room, both proverbial and literal.

By decluttering your home, you’re left with lots of walking space. That space is crucial for maneuvering around the house with empty boxes of various sizes. And if you want to pack properly and with minimal errors, you need a space where you can think clearly and without pressure. The people who are helping you move will also appreciate the effort. As a matter of fact, you can also ask them to help you declutter. It will serve as a decent warm-up exercise before the actual move itself.

Helping the Community Out

Extra items don’t always need to go to the landfill. When decluttering, you can contact organizations like Goodwill and Salvation Army and donate the items you don’t need. By doing so, you will be helping someone less fortunate and doing the right thing. An old couch for you might be the item that saves a poor family of ten. And if you do it right, you can actually use some of these donations as tax write-offs.

Earning Some Money from Old Items

Selling old items is also an excellent way of reducing clutter, and there are plenty of platforms that you can use to do just that. Doing it will earn you some money, and during a move, you will need every single dollar you can get. Though you might not earn too much or sell everything before the moving date, you can still greatly reduce your massive load of items through regular or online retail.

Do you want to enter your new home clean and fresh? Well, so would the person who wants to move into your own home, i.e., the home you’re about to leave. So, in order to provide them with that feeling, you will need to keep it clean and fresh. More importantly, it will give you a sense of closure, as if an old chapter in your life is finally finished and you’re about to start a new one without any lingering emotions or unfinished business.

Yes, Declutter After the Move, Too

As odd as it might seem, you will also want to declutter after you move for three major reasons:

  1. It helps you reduce those remaining useless items and earn some more money

  2. You get to bring something special to your new community

  3. It makes you feel refreshed and ready to go.

Let’s discuss each reason a bit further. As stated earlier, you won’t be able to get rid of all the clutter before you actually move house. So, when you’re settling in, you will want to finish the job and get rid of as many useless items as possible. This second round of reduction is perfect, as it only leaves you with what you really need.

You can get rid of these items by either selling them or donating to them. Either way, this is a chance to get on your new community’s good side. By hosting a garage sale or donating to local charities and churches, you can show how willing you are to contribute to your new neighborhood. Plus, it’s an opportunity to meet your fellow neighbors and socialize.

Finally, there’s that feeling of closure again, but this time in a bit of a different sense. By decluttering right after the move and right before settling in, you get to use some of that moving energy and tie up all the loose ends. Then you can kick back, relax, and take the moment in. You’re in your new home, and it looks clean, neat, and amazing.

A Brief Conclusion: Turning Clutter into Art

Believe it or not, even if you have remaining clutter, you don’t have to pile it up and ruin your desired decor. Instead, you can take the advice of maximalist artists and turn said clutter into art. By using simple color coding and design hacks, you can take excess books, dishes, trinkets, and knick-knacks and transform a room from a warehouse to a veritable miniature museum. It will certainly be a conversational piece among the neighbors. But more importantly, it won’t impede your living condition in any way, shape, or form.

2022 Mother's Day Gift Guide

Since our holiday gift guides were such a big hit we decided to keep the fun going with our Mother’s Day Gift Guide.

Velvet Non-Slip Hangers

Want a quick closet facelift? Low profile hangers are the way to do it. Plastic tubular hangers and wooden hangers take up more space than you realize and wire hangers can easily damage your clothes (and look messy). These non-slip velvet hangers save an incredible amount of space in your closet with their slender profile. Plus having uniform hangers is aesthetically pleasing.

Striped Seagrass Tote Bag

We love a tote and this one is the perfect size for everyday errands. The striped seagrass material is great for the summer and the reinforced handle makes it super durable.

Gastro Obscura: A Food Adventurer's Guide (Atlas Obscura)

One of our organizers introduced us to this book and it’s been on our minds ever since. From the creators behind Atlas Obscura, Gastro Obscura shares culinary hidden gems around the world.

Cricut Joy Labeling Starter Kit

This Cricut is much smaller than their main machines which makes it a little less intimidating. We use ours to create custom labels - surprise, surprise but the personalized options are endless.

Long Floral Garden Gloves

These adjustable gloves are extra long in length to protect arms from scratches and dirt and the whimsical floral print elevates any gardening outfit.

Adjustable Yoga Mat Bag

This yoga mat bag has adjustable straps, is made with water repellent fabric and has a few pockets to store your keys and/or water bottle.

UMA Bath & Body Oil

We love this Ayurvedic beauty brand. This set includes botanicals like clary sage, sandalwood, chamomile, and lavender (in the bath oil), and clary sage, sandalwood, chamomile, and geranium (in the body oil), to create amazing calming scents.

Theragun Mini - Rose

Give the gift of a massage with just a push of the button. This mini Theragun is easy to pack, is super light and packs 20lbs of force. Plus it’s rose.

Caraway Bakeware Set

We love a matching bakeware set especially when it features a toxin-free ceramic surface. Extra points for Caraway for creating storage organizers to keep the 11 piece set tidy in your kitchen.

Project Spotlight: A Spice Wall For The Books

We loved working on this spice jar project. It took us awhile to source the perfect vessels. We ended up using these tall Weck jars and replaced the regular clipped tops with these wood tops (that have a seal gasket) and then we added these sweetest little jars from a great Etsy shop. We had to keep the Coleman’s mustard tin container because it’s just so classic!

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to work in a space designed by the fabulous @scribe.studio. It was like getting to color in the most sophisticated and beautiful coloring book. They design not only for beauty and elegance, but for functionality as well. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work in one of their homes and will share more photos from the project soon!

Want to shop these products?

Tidy Nest Featured Press: Get to Know Shannon Krause....

Thank you to Hello Fairfield County Guide for helping our community get to know Shannon a little bit better.

How long have you had your business?

I started Tidy Nest with my business (and life partner) in early 2019 so Tidy Nest is three years old. But I have been organizing for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, I would find enjoyment organizing my mom’s coupons, my barbie doll clothes, tupperware containers, etc. In highschool and college, I was super active and had to juggle a demanding schedule so I really honed my time management skills at that stage of my life. Right out of college I started my career in PR and Marketing for real estate brokers in New York City - at my busiest I was coordinating PR and marketing efforts for 85 brokers at one of the top real estate firms in NYC, needless to say I needed to be incredibly organized. As a hobby, I would help my friends and family move, organize their closets, plan their vacations, etc. Order, productivity and organization have always been part of my life.

If you could have any celebrity client, who would it be?I think it would be Martha Stewart - she's the queen of all things organization so if I could get her stamp of approval that's like receiving the highest honor.

What’s your favorite dish at a local restaurant?
I'd say the sole or mussels at Luc's. I order either at least once a week.

What is your favorite splurge?

I tend to justify many "splurges" when traveling. If I can pay extra to cut a line, have a private tour or board a flight first, I will!

Do you have a favorite “hidden gem”?

I don't think I can call this a hidden gem anymore since it has won "best breakfast in CT" but Kitchen Little in Mystic, CT is one of my favorite places. We've been going there for years and no matter how long we're away Jimmy (the owner) still welcomes us with a giant hug.

What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday?

We are usually with clients on Sundays but if I have the day off then it usually starts with breakfast at Rosie in New Canaan followed by spending time at home with our three kitties...inevitably I'm organizing some space in my home, working on a puzzle or spending time in my garden.

What makes you happy?

It sounds cliche but my work makes me happy. There’s real joy in helping to eliminate stress and chaos for our clients - especially since there’s so much of that going around these days. I particularly like the challenge of meeting each of their unique needs with systems that work for their specific lives. We are able to give our clients back their time and create a sense of peace in their spaces - that makes me very happy.
On a non-work level, spending time outdoors with friends and family and traveling as much as possible brings me a lot of joy.

Tidy Nest Featured Press: 15 Ways to Organize Your Makeup and Beauty Supplies (HGTV)

HGTV published “15 Ways to Organize Your Makeup and Beauty Supplies”. One of Shannon’s favorite ways to store makeup and beauty supplies was featured in the article (see slide 8).

Modular System

Keep all your makeup and beauty products in one place without hogging all the bathroom drawers.

Products used:

The Original Beauty Box

It seems like the Original Beauty Box no longer has a website - a great alternative is The Container Store’s Acrylic Modular Makeup System.

Project Recap: Tidy Nest Pantry x mDesign Products

When we saw this pantry’s metal door detail, we knew mDesign’s graphite wire bins would compliment the aesthetic well.

This pantry works hard for two very busy professionals and it needed some Tidy Nest attention.

pantry full of items

We pulled everything out, categorized and edited.

Our favorite stage of a project - the space is clean, the product is in, and we can begin to look at the project with fresh eyes.

empty shelves in pantry

We played around with product placement and landed on a few staples from mDesign’s wire collection.

The graphite wire bins were the perfect choice for bags of chips, crackers, pasta and teas. Not only do the graphite bins look great in the space, but they’re functional, versatile, and allow you to see the items without being completely transparent as well.

mdesign baskets and product on table

The additional products we chose are thoughtfully sized, rust-resistant and in some cases expandable and adjustable. The pullout basket drawers and storage shelves were added to utilize the vertical space.

mdesign metal baskets

The most important piece for this household was to have their supplements visible and easily accessible. Previously they were stored on the kitchen counter and in baskets in the pantry causing the client’s kitchen island to be cluttered and making it challenging to find the correct bottles.

We added an expandable three-tier spice rack and placed the supplements front and center.

Easy access and super visible!

mdesign metal baskets

These are great choices if you’re looking to use less plastic in your home or you simply want a more modern aesthetic.

2022 Valentine's Day Gift Guide: For Her

Since our holiday gift guides were such a big hit we decided to keep the fun going with Valentine’s Day gift guides.

Booklinen Weighted Blanket

Weighted blankets reduce stress and anxiety and this Brooklinen version does just that. It feels like a cozy, 12lb hug and the breathable fabric doesn’t create extra heat.

MZ Wallace Heart Backpack

Yes, you all get it….We love MZW and we love versatile pieces. This design is half backpack, half tote with all the MZW bells & whistles (a million pockets, detachable pouch, leather detailing). Plus leopard & hearts is a no brainer.

You may recall seeing this on our travel gift guide. We love anything Away - the compression board allows us to pack more outfits and the spinner wheels actually work! And now it’s available in this stunning rose gold.

Ellis Brooklyn Library Clean Perfume

It’s hard to find nice smelling perfume that lasts AND is clean. We’ve been using this set since the holidays. The scents can be layered so it’s been fun to play around creating new scents each day. The best part is that the scents are vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free and phthalte-free.

Carved Heart Tray

We love multipurpose pieces so we’re always looking for items that can be used in many rooms. We thought this could be sweet in an entryway as decor, bathroom to corral your perfumes and pretty bottles, as a serving piece for parties or simply mounted on the wall as a piece of art. It’s hand-carved from repurposed oak.

Ring Concierge's Customized Birthstone Necklace

This is a fun, modern take on the birthstone necklace. Choose up to 5 different stones and place in any order you’d like. Shannon and her best friend have these as “best friend necklaces” and wear them every single day.

Cashmere Scarf

Cashmere scarf sounds boring but we loved the “Made with Love” detail on the bottom and it’s super wide so it can be used as a shawl or travel blanket - another double duty product!

Adopt An Elephant

Or a Rhino or giraffe at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. Jared was lucky enough to visit a few years ago and came home with an (adopted) elephant for Shannon which is still one of her favorite gifts. You can read about each orphan’s story on their website and choose the orphan that speaks to you

Grove products never disappoint. This certified organic lavender essential oil is a more budget-friendly essential oil and is great for aromatherapy and home fragrance.

A placemat that is cute plus easy to wipe clean is a win-win for us!

Big Friendship

“An inspiring and entertaining testament to the power of society’s most under-appreciated relationship, Big Friendship will invite you to think about how your own bonds are formed, challenged, and preserved. It is a call to value your friendships in all of their complexity. Actively choose them. And, sometimes, fight for them.”

Calm App

Give the gift of mindfulness, improved sleep, and… calm with a subscription to one of our favorite meditation apps.

Copper Water Bottle

Okay, we love a gift that you’d never buy yourself and this is one of them. It’s a pricey water bottle but not only is it so pretty, it’s inspired by the Ayurvedic practice of tamra jal - or, storing water in copper vessels - which is believed to help neutralize toxins as it ionizes and balances the pH of water.

Jade Comb

By now you know that Shannon loves crystals and she will find any reason to bring them into her daily routine. This jade comb, sourced by the best holistic skincare queen, nourishes the scalp, increases blood flow and releases tension.

Heart Pillow

We love simple holiday decor that could also be used year-round.

Yoga Mat

This mat has a great grippy surface and is eco-friendly and biodegradable.

What We're Reading: Simple Shui for Every Day: 365 Ways to Feng Shui Your Life by Amanda Gibby Peters

We mentioned that one of our goals for 2022 is to read more books and share our findings with all of you.

So first up is a book that sparked my interest in Feng Shui - Simple Shui for Every Day: 365 Ways to Feng Shui Your Life by Amanda Gibby Peters

Amanda is the "Martha Stewart of Feng Shui" so no wonder I was drawn to her (We all know my love for Martha). Amanda makes Feng Shui more digestible and accessible. Her approach is "home improvement-meets-self empowerment" - a combo we can all use.

This book has 365 prompts to help you incorporate Feng Shui practices in your life and home. Some pertain to clutter, some pertain to the 5 Chinese Elements, some pertain to space clearing. There's something for everyone.

We’ll be sharing our monthly take aways here on the blog and each week on Instagram, we’ll share how we implemented it into our own space.

Here are some of the practices we incorporated in our home throughout January.

January 3 - Do one nice thing for your space every week until the end of the year. The first week of January, we smudged our entire house and added new crystals to our space. The second week of January we decluttered the entire home and donated items we longer use or need. Next week we'll be adding fresh flowers to our spaces!

January 5 - Oranges represent "the sweet life" so keep a bowl of oranges in your kitchen and more opportunities to enjoy your life will come your way.

January 11 - Introduce mother nature to your office. Add plants to reduce fatigue, add bright colors to bring life into your surroundings, incorporate natural materials as their chi is more powerful.

January 12 - Remove anything in your home that suggests "struggle". We got rid of all our expired food (and we're embarrassed to share that it was more than we thought), we removed any dying or dead plants (sorry mom) and discarded anything that was worn out or damaged beyond repair.

January 14 - Open your windows once a week. Think “out with the old and in with the new”!

January 18 - Clean that oven! It’s super important in Feng Shui as it attracts personal and financial abundance.

January 21 - Replace photos around your house to make your space feel more alive!

January 25 - Clear off your nightstand - too much stuff in one place causes brain fatigue.

January 28 - Items from nature nurture chi magic in our homes. Find unique ways to incorporate items from nature into your spaces - we have crystals, rocks, plants and feathers everywhere!

January 30 - Amanda says it so well “When you tolerate clutter, energy doesn't flow freely - and if energy isn’t moving, your money situation isn’t either.” Tackle those stacks of papers, magazines and random piles. I was embarrassed to find a year worth of old magazines in my office.

Tidy Tips: Easy Ways To Keep Your Nightstand Clutter-free

Keep that nightstand clutter-free

Your bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation, so bringing anything into the space that negatively alters that energy is a hard no for us.

Inevitably the nightstand tends to be a catchall for all the wrong things - paperwork, iphones and ipads, to-do lists, medicine, stacks of books, too many candles, and in my case, a few too many crystals.

Here are some quick tips to keep your nightstand clutter-free:

🛌 Use your drawers

📥 Add drawer dividers to keep everything corralled; otherwise you're going to be fighting a losing battle against a junk drawer

🧺 If you don't have drawers or if you have exposed shelves, use baskets to contain your items

🔌 Move your electronics outside of the bedroom - it's a big change, but it's well worth it

📚 Stick to one or two books (but no work books allowed!)

Let us know what your nightstand looks like!

2021 Holiday Gift Guides: Shannon's Picks

We’re so excited to be sharing the first edition of our holiday gift guides. We covered different categories from our personal picks to stocking stuffers to items for the cat lover (I know, big stretch but we love our cats).

Next up are some of Shannon’s favorite gifts to give (and receive).

Bed of Nails Mat & Pillow

I’ve introduced so many people to these acupressure mats. Trust me. This is an incredibly effective tool for easing tension and inducing a state of deep relaxation. Bed of Nails acupressure mats are similar to acupuncture but it does not penetrate the skin.

This has been a lifesaver after a long day of organizing.

Minimalista by Shira Gill

Shira Gill has been a mentor to me (even though she doesn’t know I exist). I just love her perspective on organizing and consumption. Her new book, Minimalista, is a beautiful hardcover step-by-step guide to a better home, wardrobe and life.

Who doesn’t want that?

Reflexology Wand

I will do anything Elizabeth from Honest Rituals tells me to do when it comes to skincare. She hasn’t steered me wrong yet! I watched her mesmerizing Instagram videos using this wand and I instantly felt my tense facial muscles relax.

By massaging specific points on your face using this wand, you can soothe your nervous system, release facial tension and stimulate collagen

Beauty Counter Body Scrub

I am all about clean beauty and have been loving Beauty Counters body scrub. The scent is delicious and the sugar grains are the perfect size. It is made with organic cane sugar, sweet almond oil and organic sunflower seed oil and has notes of apricot, lemon, orange, bergamot and grapefruit.

Yummmmm.

Shout out to my friend Lauren for gifting a Beauty Counter item for our giveaway!

eeBoo Puzzle

Puzzles have always been our favorite pastime but during quarantine it became an obsession and we found ourselves calling the local toy stores (thanks New Canaan Toy Store) asking for curbside pickup of our favorite brand puzzle - eeBoo.

The designs are magical, the images celebrate inclusion and encourages empathy and the pieces are made from recycled materials and vegetable based ink. They have my name written all over them.

Living Libation's Royal Rose CoQ10 Serum

Here’s another gem from Honest Rituals. This serum is magic in a bottle. It contains the most glorious essential oils including Immortelle, Sweet Thyme, Myrrth and Ylang mixed in a Rosehip seed oil base. Truthfully anything from the Living Libations line is a game changer.

Gratitude Journal

I recently did a 44 day gratitude challenge (thanks to @the.lifestyle.psychologist) and I saw the benefits immediately. Now it has become a daily ritual. While you don’t need a specific gratitude journal to practice gratitude, we found it more impactful to physically write a little something each day and why not do that in a pretty journal.

MetalBird

My brother in law introduced me to these and I have since purchased about 10 for friends and family.

MetalBird started as a street art project in New Zealand and now the products are sold throughout the world. They are all unique and bring a whimsical charm to your backyard.

Order early because they are made and shipped from Australia (which is another reason why I am so drawn to them - shoutout to my Aussie crew!).

Ember Mug

This is one of my favorite bougie, unnecessary, but oh-so amazing gifts. This mug works with your iPhone to set the desired temperature and notifies you when your temperature is reached. I drink a ton of hot water and tea and have this working for me ALL day, every day.

The best part is not having to get up from the couch to reheat your beverage.

2021 Holiday Gift Guides: Jared's Picks

We’re so excited to be sharing the first edition of our holiday gift guides. We covered different categories from our personal picks to stocking stuffers to items for the cat lover (I know, big stretch but we love our cats).

Next up are some of Jared’s favorite gifts to give (and receive).

Lafco New York Candles

I have yet to find a fragrance I don't like. They also use ethically sourced ingredients, sustainable manufacturing processes and environmentally friendly practices.

Aldez Tequila

Forget Patron. This is a fantastic tequila with a bright profile and zero artificial flavor. It's an organic and sustainable brand -- all bottles and corks are made from recycled materials.

Hemp Infused Sleep Gummies

Since everyone on Earth is stressed these days, these gummies are my secret weapon in the battle against insomnia.

Custom Notepads

These are a family favorite. Every Christmas I make these custom notepads with really cheesy motivational quotes accompanied by funny family photos. Very inexpensive and personal option and great for lists to keep you organized.

Bombas Socks

If you don't know Bombas, you need to change that. The only socks I wear and they're a 1-for-1 company.

Kershaw Everyday Pocket Knife

I've had this Leek model knife for about 10 years and use it almost daily - especially on Tidy Nest jobs. If you take care of it, it can last a lifetime.

Beltology Belt

Handwoven belts from New York. They're super versatile and very well made. I've worn mine for several years and it still looks brand new.

Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Soap

Yes To is one of my favorite brands and while this is my favorite soap, any of their products are great for stocking stuffers.

Mrs. Weinstein's Toffee

I don't know who Mrs. Weinstein is, but she's a saint. Don't sleep on her dark chocolate almond toffee - it's a must have in our house.

2021 Holiday Gift Guides: Getting Organized

We’re so excited to be sharing the first edition of our holiday gift guides. We covered different categories from our personal picks to stocking stuffers to items for the cat lover (I know, big stretch but we love our cats).

Next up are some of our favorite gift ideas for those of you who want to get organized.

Bamboo Drawer Organizers

Drawer organizers are essential in nearly every space - they can tame utensil drawers, utility drawers (formerly known as a junk drawer), office supplies, bathroom cabinets, nightstands, etc. We prefer bamboo over plastic and we especially like these because they are 100% bamboo (many have MDF bases). We always have various sizes on hand and play a little Tetris to find the perfect configuration.

Vegan Leather Baskets

These baskets from Folden Lane are fairly new to the organizing scene and we're so excited to welcome them to our repertoire. They are made with a buttery soft vegan leather and stainless steel hardware. They are shipped flat (that's right, flat!) cutting down on carbon emissions and packaging waste.

Acacia Perforated Baskets

Surprise, surprise, we love a basket. Anything designed by Neat Method is going to be thoughtfully designed and made with top of the line materials. This basket is made with acacia wood, another one of our favorite materials. The perforated metal sides not only add an interesting texture, but it assists with visibility and airflow.

Rattan Basket

Okay, you get it… another basket. But hear us out…we love options. We refer to this basket as the more modern wicker basket. These baskets are made by hand and are super light which is perfect for those overhead shelves.

Magnetic Label Holders

Another genius product from the Neat Method. There are three ways to use these labels and we’re here for them all.

Magnetize - if you’re attaching to metal, just use the front plate. If you’re attaching to cloth, use both the front plate and the back plate.

Thread -  the back plate has 2 small holes on either side, use a nylon tie (it comes in the package) and thread through the woven material and then twist in the back.

Tie - use string through the  holes of the back plate.

Glass Spice Jars

Decanting spices is not for everyone but if you’re into it, these are our go-to vessels. The shape of the bottle ensures that they properly stand up in cabinets or lay in drawers without rolling around.

Wire Storage Bins

These metal bins are incredibly versatile. We’ve used them in pantries, playrooms, offices, mudrooms and they go with both a modern decor and a farmhouse decor.

Bamboo Charging Station

We have so many devices these days - watches, ipads, iphones, airpods - and our charges are never where we need them to be. That’s why we started incorporating these charging stations in our office projects. They are sleek and can charge up to 5 devices including an apple watch and airpods.

PTouch Cube Label Maker

All we can say about this little gem is that...

We. Can’t. Live. Without. Her.

2021 Holiday Gift Guides: For The Cat Lover

We’re so excited to be sharing the first edition of our holiday gift guides. We covered different categories from our personal picks to stocking stuffers to items for the cat lover (I know, big stretch but we love our cats).

Next up are some of our favorite gift ideas for those who love their cats as much as we do!

Cactus Pet Condo

If you have a cat, you know that cat condos and cat scratchers can be an eyesore but not this one. We love this funky design, it’s super plush and there is a removal interior cushion for easy cleaning. We’ve even seen two cats fit in this one!

Ceramic Tilted Bowl

Alright this is super cute but that’s not the reason we love it. Tilted bowls protect the cervical spine and the height assists with better digestion. The non-slip wood stand keeps the bowl from sliding around when your kitties are eating. Plus it’s made with 100% ceramic and natural bamboo materials.

Mylar Crinkle Balls

We think these are the only toys a cat needs. They LOVE the crinkle noises and they usually come in packs of 10-20 so you don’t have to move your refrigerator or couch every time a toy gets lost.

Letters of Note: Cats

Here’s a gift for a cat’s human. While we don’t actually own this book, we are big fans of Shaun Usher's other books in this collection. For those of you who are not familiar with this series, it’s a collection of letters from notable people throughout history like Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Taylor, And, in this edition, the letters all pertain to their feline companions.

Interactive Cat Puzzle

This is a great treat puzzle for the curious cats in your life. There are 6 compartments for treats and you can adjust the difficulty of the puzzle as your kitty learns. This will keep your cat busy for hours!

Collapsible Cat Tunnel

Whenever we leave our cats for extended periods of time, we always take out the cat tunnel to keep them busy. The best part is that it’s collapsible and can easily be stored in a cabinet or drawer - you know we’re always thinking about storage!

Cactus Cat Scratcher

Unfortunately cats love to scratch rugs and furniture and somehow always choose the most expensive pieces in your home. Sadly cat scratchers are notorious for being ugly so we were excited to find this cactus cat scratcher - which pairs well with the cactus condo. This is made with natural sisal and is easy to assemble.

Cat Track Toy

This has always been a fan favorite in our house. Our cats swat and bat at the tracks for hours and the bright colored balls don’t slip out of the track so they can play for hours.

Stainless Steel Water Fountain

Clean running water is essential for cat health. We’ve been through a ton of water fountains and find this one to be a perfect choice. It’s on the smaller scale so it’s great for one cat or as a secondary fountain. If the sound of constant running water annoys you - you’ll be happy to know this one is very quiet.
